Expected learning outcomes

Mastering the techniques of electron microscopy and X-ray tomography. Implementing image processing techniques.

Indicative Syllabus

PART 1 (14h) Experimental and theorical approach in Electron microscopy-based techniques: matter-radiation interaction principles, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, imaging, electron diffraction, wave-length and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron energy-loss spectrometry. PART 2 (6h) Principles of X-ray tomography, instrumentation, instrumental technology, reconstruction, artefacts. Image processing: image analysis, histogram and segmentation, image filtering in the spatial domain (linear and non-linear filters), image filtering in the frequency domain.
