German Culture for Business I – IPP

About this course

Knowing and understanding the Other are two pillars supporting intercultural dialogues. Students get to know the multifaceted German reality. In addition, this approach is intended to introduce the German business and economic realities in connection with the sociocultural scene of the country and of its specific regional characteristics.

Expected learning outcomes

Knowing and reflecting upon the existence of different cultures e subcultures of the peoples speaking the target language, including but not restricted to concepts like ethnicity, gender, politics, religion, etc.; Understanding the concept of Culture of contemporary German language speaking peoples; Intensively acquiring awareness about diverse historic, socio-political and socioeconomic aspects which have significant impacts in modern Germany; Acquiring and applying specific terminology of elements related to German History, Culture and Society; Developing critical awareness about the existence of multiple interpretations of cultural contexts and their values; Reflecting on sociocultural differences and similarities between Germany and Portugal; Being able to promote, act and interact in professional intercultural contexts.
